The company iBoats advertises a price match guarantee to its competitors, and I have successfully placed orders with them in the past, so for the purchase of a marine ac, I decided to use them. I called their customer service line on a Monday, and talked with a customer service representative.

The representative told me that they could not see the shipping price of the competitor, so they could not do a 1:1 price match, but offered a $200 discount from iBoats price if I wanted to go ahead and order. I said that was fine and proceeded to place the order with the representative. The price of the item with the discount was $1309.28 with an additional $31.07 shipping and handling with UPS Ground shipping. The total amount was $1340.35 and I received a order confirmation email and saw the charges on my credit card.

The order was supposed to be delivered on the following Thursday and it never arrived. I thought it might just be delayed and decided to wait another day to see if it showed up. The following day (Friday 2/2/18) I got an email from a customer service representative saying their warehouse wanted to ship the item freight, and that if I wanted to receive my items, I had to pay an addition $218.93 plus $50 if I didn't have a lift gate. I called their customer service and kept getting the same response.

I was told that their systems did not indicate that it was supposed to ship freight (I have screenshots of their website today that still shows UPS Ground and a price) and that if they paid for the freight shipping, they would go below cost of the item and they can't do that. They reiterated that I only had the option to pay the additional amount, or cancel the order. I asked if they could use a different shipper and they told me know and that I had to pay the additional freight. Only being given two options, which I expressed I was NOT satisfied with either, having no other choice I told them to cancel so I could get my money back and shop somewhere else.

I feel like my bought and paid for item was being held ransom. I feel like it would be one thing to say you could price match the item but then get a quote for shipping later, but this didn't happen. I bought and paid for an item and shipping only to find out after the delivery date that I would have to pay more money to get it.

This is wrong and I am frustrated and feel taken advantage of. Notified BBB

All you have to do is shop "boat seats" - to see how non-competitive iBoats prices are compared to almost any other retailer. In some cases they were 3x4 times higher on similar items.

Their shipping and delivery schedules suck as well - count on weeks to get your purchase. I thought I got a close out bargain on some paint - except I still haven't received it after nearly two weeks.
